Jay's Bio

Jay Morrow is about polite and humble as they come. When told he was the Crown Royal King of the month for April 2008, about all he could muster up to say was “thank you”.

“It’s been a rough fall and winter, things have really turned around for me these last three weeks. I’m blessed and not taking anything for granted”.

Raised in Wayland, IA Jay grew to love bull riding when he would go to watch his dad ride and started on the same path at a young age. After his dad sustained a serious injury Jay’s mom backed her son away from the sport for his own protection.  He couldn’t stay away and came back to riding at the age of 17 going on to compete in the High School National Finals that first year.  He earned his pro card at the age of 19 and has been competing since. His dream, he says, is the same as everyone else’s, “NFR! I would like to do it at least once. 10 days of competition in Las Vegas. It is what every rider wants to do”.

When Jay isn’t driving cross county to compete he tries to get home as much as possible to see his family which includes a younger sister, and two younger brothers.  His youngest brother, Zane, says Jay   “Is my biggest fan”.  He also enjoys hunting, fishing, skiing and recently took up spelunking, “I like anything outdoors. I hate to sit still. I like to keep busy”, he explains.

“I love everything about the CBR.  When you walk in the door you feel welcome. It’s a fun atmosphere and I just love going”.

Jay mentioned a quote that was given to him during a rough patch and he likes to refer to it whenever needed, “Success is never final. Failure is never fatal. It’s the courage to continue that matters.”
