Cooper's Bio:
CBR crowned Cooper Kanngiesser as the King of the Month for February 2009.
Cooper earned the title after his triumphant win in El Paso. The young rider from Zenda, KS lead the 2008 leader board most of the season and won the distinguished George Paul Memorial in May. He went into the CBR Waggin Train World Championship second in the standings. Cooper won the round one average on the bull Hot Diggity Damn and earned a chance on the bonus bull of the night Shakedown. Living up to his reputation, Shakedown shook the cowboy from his back breaking Coopers nose and splitting his lip on the bulls horn on the way down. Round two also proved to be rough on Cooper. He was not able to keep his mount on either ride and he watched as his dream of becoming World Champion slip through his fingers.
“It was pretty hard. I worked so hard to get where I was and it was like a bad dream and it all just crumbled. I really wanted that title.”
The World title was not to be his but Cooper, ever resilient, traveled to El Paso with new resolve.
Riding fourth out for the night in front of a sell -out crowd in El Paso, he rode the Alan Murphy bull Jack of Spades, scoring an 88. He came back in the short round on McCrazy, the Mike Johnson Bull, for a 92.5 and finished with a total for the night of 180.5 points.
“I’m not letting what happened to me in Las Vegas get me down. It’s a new season and I’m gonna take this one just like the last and make it happen for me. One CBR event at a time. Winning El Paso is just the beginning.” He said with a grin.
“Cooper is a talented rider and as long as he is healthy, he can win it”, observed CBR President Tuff Hedeman.
In addition to his wife Kylie and son Talan, his biggest supporters include his parents, Cheryl and Mark, his grandparents Ed and Janice, and his sister Meagan. Back at home Cooper is a farmer and rancher and loves to hunt, fish and golf on his time off. He is sponsored by Western Hauler and Logan Western Supply.
