Spud Jones

2008 CBR WC Qualifier
2007 CBR Champion - Window Rock, AZ

Personal Information:

Name:  Spud Jones
Hometown:  Tohatchi, NM
Birthdate:  September 23, 1988 - 20 years old

Spud's Bio:

Spud Jones of Window Rock, AZ, was the March 2008 Championship Bull Riding Crown Royal King of the Month. The tall, lanky bull rider of the Navajo Nation is quickly making a name for himself on both the CBR and Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association (PRCA) circuits.

"Every time I watch this kid I am more and more impressed," stated CBR President and 4-time World Champion Tuff Hedeman while watching Jones ride in the short round of the 2008 CBR El Paso event. "I haven't seen a guy ride THIS good THIS young in a long time. He does everything correct. He's tall, he's lanky, but he sits right in the middle and makes all the right moves. If he can stay health and if he can stay focused, he will be a world champion."

So far in 2008, Jones has won the bull riding average at the PRCA's Denver National Western Stock Show and Rodeo, and is ranked 12th in the CBR's national standings.

Jones is an all around hand who began competing in rodeo at age 3 in "mutton bustin." From there he said he moved on to steers, then bulls and broncs as well as tie-down and team roping.

While in high school Jones qualified for and competed in the 2005 National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyo. Although he qualified for the 2006 NHSFR in Springfield, Ill, a broken leg kept him out of the competition.

In 2006, at age 17, he won the All Indian Rodeo Cowboy's Association All-Around Champion title, after winning the bull riding and competing in saddle bronc and team roping. When he turned 18, he bought his PRCA permit and after fulfilling the requirements, bought his PRCA Card. In 2007, Jones won his hometown CBR event in Window Rock, AZ, and qualified to the CBR World Championships in Las Vegas, NV.

Jones says he stays in shape for bull riding by staying active on his ranch and riding horses, as well as participating in mixed martial arts.
