Two Bull Riders Take Hedeman Back to the Future in Hobbs

Preparations are underway for the top 24 bull riders and sixty bucking bulls arriving in Hobbs this week for the Hobbs Tuff Hedeman Championship Bull Riding on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Lea County Event Center Arena at 7:30 PM.

The four time World Champion Bull Rider and Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer announced today his line-up of elite bull riders for the competition. It is the seventh time for the CBR event in Hobbs, but the first time Hedeman’s past crossed into the future. Joe and Josh Frost, the bull riding cousins of Lane Frost, Hedeman’s best friend and traveling partner whose lives are featured in the movie 8 Seconds, will ride at the Hobbs Tuff Hedeman CBR.

Joe Frost finished fourth at the National Finals Rodeo with earnings of $217,033 in PRCA 2016 and he and his younger brother Josh will be making his first appearance at the Hobbs CBR.

Frost, a three time National Finals Rodeo qualifier started his career as a National High School Rodeo Bull Riding Champion and Utah State High School All-Around Champion cowboy and qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo in 2013 in three events, finishing third in the steer wrestling, ninth in bull riding and second in the all-around to help Panhandle State University win the team title.

Four time World Champion Tuff Hedeman is known for producing action-packed performances that keep fans on the edge of their seats. The event showcases the professional cowboys with great bulls matched up with super star riders. It is two hours of action packed adrenaline rush athletic competition with upbeat music, a stick bull riding contest for kids, and a chance to meet the competitors; there is definitely something for everyone at the Hobbs Tuff Hedeman Championship Bull Riding.

This year’s family friendly event is the eighth stop on the 2017 Road to Cheyenne tour, a twelve month nationally televised professional bull riding tour features the top of the industry’s bull riding roster including the reigning CBR and Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association World Champion, Sage Kimzey of Strong City, Okla.

Representing New Mexico in this year’s event at the Lea County Event Center is famed bull rider Travis Briscoe of Edgewood, New Mexico who is on a comeback effort from several career-threatening injuries.

As a professional bull rider Frost and Briscoe have both won over half a million dollars riding bulls in competition.

Joining Hedeman on the dirt will be a highly decorated set of rodeo stars including Sage Kimzey, Eli Vastbinder, Joe Frost, Cody Rostockyj, Chandler Bownds, Travis Briscoe, Jeff Askey and Rorey Maier.

Ticket holders can look forward to a great night as CBR has recruited some of the industry’s leading entertainment including NFR Barrel man, J.J. Harrison and the Get Famous Energy Bullfighters.

“It’s a combination of a great rock and roll concert and a heavy weight prize fight and refereed by Tuff Hedeman,” said CBR Chief Executive Officer Benny Cude.

In addition to lucrative prize money, bull riders accumulate points which qualify them for the World Finals, part of the legendary Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration held Wyoming next July where the winner takes home $100,000.
