Tennessee Bull Rider Tops Rider List for Jackson CBR

Sixty bull riders, 100 bucking bulls and one country music star are scheduled to arrive in Jackson this week for the two performances of the CBRís annual Bud Light Classic presented by Alan Vines Automotive set to begin on Friday January 13, and Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Oman Arena at 8 PM.

This yearís two night event is the second stop on the 2017 Road to Cheyenne tour, a twelve month nationally televised professional bull riding tour that will feature country music artist Jason Pritchett in concert immediately following the bull riding action.

This is the fifteenth time CBR has lined up a group of elite bull riders for the Tennessee bull riding fans including three time Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and two time CBR World Champion, Sage Kimzey from Strong City, Oklahoma. Kimzey won last weekís event in Enid, Okla., to retain his number one ranking but this week he will have to ride past a former Tennessee resident and University of Tennessee graduate to win.

Jeff Askey, a University of Tennessee at Martin graduate with a degree in Animal Science will be coming in early this week to promote the long-standing family favorite event held at the Oman Arena. Askey, who finished fourth in the 2016 National Finals Rodeo is the 10th ranked cowboy in CBR after winning his first CBR title in Conroe last October. The twenty-seven year old professional bull rider won the 2010 College National Finals Rodeo Champion representing UT Martin.

ďItís exciting to be able to come back to Tennessee where I got my start and ride in front of such great rodeo and bull riding fans and I am really looking forward to seeing friends and competing in such a friendly crowd,Ē said Askey.

This yearís Bud Light Classic features Friday nightís Horizon Series where forty riders will try to earn the highest score to earn the opportunity to get on a bounty bull worth $10,000 to the rider if he makes the required 8 second ride. Saturday night fields 24 elite bull riders in a three round tournament style event ending in a final four Shootout Round worth $30,000.

Joining Kimzey and Askey on the dirt will be a highly decorated set of National Finals Rodeo stars including Eli Vastbinder, Joe Frost, Cody Rostockyj, Chandler Bownds, Travis Briscoe, Tim Bingham, Ty Wallace, and Rorey Maier. Bownds and Vastbinder will be at Alan Vines Automotive signing autographs on Saturday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Four time World Champion and CBR Chute Boss Tuff Hedeman has been producing top rated events for over 30 years and has pulled out all the stops for the CBRís 15th trip to Jackson. Ticket holders can look forward to a great night as CBR has recruited some of the industryís leading entertainment including NFR Barrel man, J.J. Harrison and the Get Famous Energy Bullfighters.

CBR Famous Energy Bullfighters, grand pyro introductions, and great family entertainment assure bull riding fans enjoy the two hour adrenaline rush show. Pre event activities begin when the doors open at 6:00 and action gets underway at 8:00 p.m.

ďItís a combination of a great rock and roll concert and a heavy weight prize fight and refereed by Tuff Hedeman,Ē said CBR Chief Executive Officer Benny Cude.

The only way for the cowboys to earn a paycheck in Jackson is to ride better than the rest of the 50 man field. The CBRís event format appeals to new spectators and established fans alike because riders can challenge as many as three bulls in one performance.

In addition to lucrative prize money, bull riders accumulate points which qualify them for the World Finals, part of the legendary Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration held Wyoming next July where the winner takes home $100,000.

The Bud Light Classic will also feature the ďother side of the ride,Ē CBRís Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge. Bull owners from all around the country will bring three bulls that are featured during the first two rounds of competition. The bulls are competing for points based on their performance in the arena. Additionally, the time the bull rider stays on is added to the bullís score. At the end of the night, the owner with the three highest-scoring bulls will receive $20,000.

Come meet the Get Famous Bullfighters Schell Apple, Brandon Loden, and Matt Baldwin at 7 PM on Saturday night as they sign autographs in the lobby next to the merchandise booth.

CBR has become known for their action-packed performances that keep fans on the edge of their seats and with a new show debuting in Jackson this yearís event is set to impress. From having great bulls matched up with super star riders, to upbeat music and enthusiastic fans there is something for everyone at Championship Bull Riding.
