Tuff Hedeman Readies Mercedes for The Ed Payne “Bulls on the Border” Bull Bash

The boys are coming back! Championship Bull Riding’s annual Bulls on the Border is headed back to Mercedes, Texas where 24 of the top ranked riders will compete on October 15 at the Ed Payne Auto Group Rodeo Arena in a three round action packed event. Four time World Champion and Pro Rodeo Hall of Famer Tuff Hedeman will be rewarding the bulls and bull riders over $75,000 in prize money this year on the fifth stop of the CBR’s nationally televised Road to Cheyenne professional bull riding tour.

South Texas bull riding fans will be treated to high energy, live action, and quality entertainment - 8 seconds at a for the third time when CBR hits town with the undisputed number one bull rider in the world, four-time World Champion Sage Kimzey from Strong City, Oklahoma.

“It is a rare opportunity for the local fans to see the number one bull rider in the world that just rode five of five bulls in Cheyenne, to win his second CBR World Champion bull riding title and is on path to win his third PRCA title in December,” said CBR Chief Executive Officer and Bulls on the Border event producer Benny Cude.

CBR will offer the diehard bull riding fans of South Texas the opportunity to see great bucking bulls and bull riders when the bull riders hit the border town for autograph signings and a Friday night pre party (see appearance schedule below).

When the bull riding begins, 24 of the CBR’s elite bull riders will be attempting to unseat the reigning CBR World Champion Kimzey.  But Kimzey and the others will have to get past local super star bull rider, U.S. Army veteran Juan Alonzo from Weslaco, Texas.

Juan Alonzo from Weslaco, Texas, a veteran of the U.S Army, who is pursuing his dreams of being a professional bull rider after serving his country in two tours in the Middle East, rode his way to the top 15 world standings where he has been parked for two years. Alonzo was impressive at the CBR World Finals in July, posting the highest score to win round one for the second consecutive year.

The Ed Payne “Bulls on the Border” Bull Bash begins at 6:30 pm with a Tailgate party featuring the Marshall Law Band. The bull riding action gets underway at 8 PM at the Ed Payne Auto Group Rodeo Arena located at 1000 North Texas Avenue. Immediately following the bull riding will be a musical concert with country music artist Sweetwater Rain.

Saturday night’s lineup will follow the revolutionary three round CBR 8 Second Format featuring a tournament style of competition. The action gets underway with the top 24 bull riders in the world doing their best to stay on for eight seconds in round one so they can advance to the semifinals. The 12 top scores get to ride in the semifinals with the best four advancing to a Shoot Out round where the bulk of the $30,000 in prize money is paid.

The CBR also features the “other side of the ride” where the CBR Bull Team Challenge showcases the bovine athletes in three bull teams that can earn as much as $20,000 for first prize and a total of $45,000 in earnings.
