D&H Cattle Company Dominates to Win 2016 CBR Futurity World Championship

Championship Bull Riding caught a glimpse of the future as they showcased 45 of their rising stars to kick off the 3rd annual Conroe Texas Bull Mania presented by DeMontrond Auto Group and held at the Lone Star Expo Center.  At the end of the morning, D&H’s Trail Blazers team was at the top of the leaderboard winning by 3.75 points over the second place team.

The Trail Blazers, flanked by Rooster Gilstrap put together a fierce team of three seasoned two year old buckers to win the CBR Championship Futurity Tour that comes with the title of 2016 CFT World Champion Futurity team and more importantly, a check for $30,000.00.

With 15 teams participating for a total of $75,000 payout in Conroe, the CBR’s CFT Finale to the three stop tour featured the crème of the crop of the industry’s four legged superstars. The judges determined the bovine athletes’ total score based on their accomplishments in the five categories of competition: buck, spin, kick, intensity and degree of difficulty with 100 total possible points available.

When large prize purses are up for grabs, D&H Cattle Company is no stranger to the winner’s circle.  D&H’s team Trail Blazers were the Lufkin, Texas CFT champions in February and their Thunder team placed second. In Salina, Kansas in March at the second CFT event their Thunder team won the championship with Trail Blazers placing fourth. Including the win on Saturday at the Lone Star Arena, the Blazers D&H powered team earned $53,560.50 competing in the CBR’s development league, the Championship Futurity Tour.

Representing some of the most successful bloodlines in competitive bucking bulls, D&H’s futurity teams always consist of genes the most recognizable bucking bulls in the sport’s history:  Mossy Oak Mudslinger, Hotel California, Western Wishes, and Sasquatch – just to name a few. The three buckers that brought the prize money back to Ardmore, Oklahoma included: 406 Big Sky - owner D&H Cattle, 39B Lunatic Bandit - owned by D&H and 444 Bucking Bulls and Tall Grass, and 66B Nasty Habit - owned by D&H and Bob Adams.

#406, Big Sky has been solid from day one, his only flaw is that he trys to hard sometimes,” said H.D. Page about the calf he bought. “He is a little electric spotted bull and I have been tickled with him,” said Page after this bull won the 2016 American Heritage futurity event. #406 was the anchor of this team that competed in Conroe and the highest marked calf of the day with 89 points for his performance.

The bull bucking second for the team, was 39B Lunatic Bandit who posted an 87.5 score. 66B Nasty Habit was 88.25 as the third bull out for the Trail Blazers.

Winning the CBR World Champion Finale multiple times, D&H Cattle Company is a perennial contender in all facets of the bucking bull industry including six stock contractor of the year awards.

The second place team owned by Prewitt and Donaho featured a son of Houdini who was 87.25 points. 418 Hou’s Raising Cane sired by Houdini and out of a White Water Skoal cow also bucked on their team that finished second in Salina. 418 was raised by the Prewitt’s as was 31 Joy Ride (87 points) who they are partnered with Stephen Gunn. The third leg of their team was 419 Simple Man (86 points) owned by Jim Donaho. “Donaho trained this good solid team and our success in 2016 included wins in UBBI competition as well, and we have really had a good time competing this season, the bull team competition has been good to us,” said the Prewitt’s while traveling home from Conroe.

The CFT is a team competition where two year old bulls compete against each other. Each team consists of three two-year-old bulls that will buck with an electronic riding dummy that automatically releases off of the bull after five seconds, giving the animal equal opportunity to perform. Each bull is judged in five categories: Buck, Kick, Spin, Intensity, & Degree of Difficulty.

Four judges evaluate the bulls, each scoring them 1-25 for a total possible score of 100. Then the team’s scores are added together with the highest total score garnering the biggest check. The first CBR CFT Futurity was held in Lufkin, Texas on February 25, 2012 where 20 teams of 2 year old bulls competed.

The CBR’s Championship Futurity Tour league had their annual meeting in Conroe to discuss the details of the 2017 tour. The results were the 2017 tour will begin with the first competition in Lufkin, Texas on February 25. The second will be in Salina, Kansas on March 25 and the World Finale in Conroe in October where 15 teams will compete for a total of $131,250.
