Championship Bull Riding Returns to the Grandstands at the South Dakota State Fair

Championship Bull Riding (CBR) announced today the details of the Made in America Road to Cheyenne tour’s season opener on Wednesday, August 31, in Huron, South Dakota. The CBR’s thirteenth season opener will begin at 8 p.m. both nights and the CBR Red Wilk Construction Bull Bush will again serve as the lead grandstand event at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron on August 31 and September 1. In addition to the bull riding action Red Wilk will honor veterans at the American Hero Award ceremony, at an extraordinary intermission rite.

CBR will bring 24 of the best bull riders in the country and pit them against the top bulls on tour to kick off their 2016-17 Road to Cheyenne nationwide televised tour and for the twelfth consecutive year CBR selected the South Dakota State Fair as their first event for the new season.

The Red Wilk Construction CBR Bull Bash presented by the South Dakota State Fair will begin on August 31 at 8 PM with the CBR Horizon Series event which will include a long round and a bounty bull worth $10,000 to the bull rider if he can hang on for eight seconds. Thursday night’s lineup will follow the CBR’s three round tournament style format which is popular with fans as it allows them to see their favorite riders challenge as many as three bulls in one night. As the bull riders progress each earning money for their qualified rides, the final four man Shoot Out round determines the winner.

The action gets underway at 8 p.m. with 24 bull riders doing their best to stay on for eight seconds in round one so they can advance to the semifinals. The 12 top scores get to ride in the semifinals with the best four advancing to a Shoot Out round where the bulk of $30,000 in prize money is paid.

This year’s show will be the twelfth time CBR has put on the opening show that kicks off the 131 year old State Fair tradition in South Dakota.  Four time World Champion Bull Rider Hall of Famer Tuff Hedeman will host the event from the dirt which will feature several World Champion bull riders against the field of the top 24 riders. Their competition will be the top bulls on the CBR tour including several World Champion bovine athletes.

South Dakota bull riding sensation Kritter Lamb, the 2014 CBR Horizon Series Champion, will go up against several CBR World Champions with the local fans set to cheer him on. The Red Wilk Construction CBR Bull Bash at the South Dakota State Fair will be the first stop on the 2017 “Road to Cheyenne” televised tour.

CBR has become known for their action-packed performances that keep fans on the edge of their seats. That is largely due to the influence of four-time World Champion Bull Rider Tuff Hedeman who coordinates every element and attends to the smallest details. From having great bulls matched up with super star riders, to upbeat music and enthusiastic fans, the CBR Bull Bash will be second to none.

The competition is also part of the CBR Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge. Bull owners will bring three bulls that are featured during the first two rounds of competition. Those bulls receive points for their performance in the arena. Additionally, the time the bull rider stays on is added to the bull’s score. At the end of the night, the owner with the three highest-scoring bulls will receive $20,000.

Immediately following the bull riding, fans will get a chance to meet and get autographs from Tuff Hedeman and the champion bull riders of the CBR.

The Red Wilk Construction Bull Bash will be held at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds, 890 3rd Street SW, Huron, SD 57530.  Tickets start at $12 for youth and $17 for adults and are available by calling 866-605-FAIR, or online List of contestants will be available at a later date.
