Tuff Hedeman Announces CBR Bull of the Year Candidates

Championship Bull Riding announced today an elite group of bovine athletes that made the list for the CBR Bull of the Year title for the 2015-16 season.  Nominated by 4 time World Champion and CBR Chute Boss Tuff Hedeman, the candidates are then voted on via secret ballot by their peers including the CBR bull riders and Bull Team Challenge stock contractors.

The Bull of the Year program was established to recognize individual bulls who best represent the ever-growing group of professional bucking bulls at each Road to Cheyenne tour event during the regular season.

Every sport awards an MVP and these select bulls have been selected for their outstanding performance and contribution during the 15 event Road to Cheyenne tour which began last August in Huron and ended April 30 at the George Paul Memorial Bull Riding in Del Rio, Texas.

What qualifies them? When their chain of command, Tuff Hedeman says they’ve outperformed everyone else.

As athletes these bulls all have incredible backgrounds and stories about how they got to this point in their careers and it is pretty impressive. CBR will be profiling the bulls and telling their backgrounds and chronicles leading up to the CBR World Finals in Cheyenne where most of them are expected to perform.

With Bull of the Year being announced at the CBR Year End Gala in Cheyenne in July, the significance of the recognition is immense to the stock contractors that develop these amazing animals for competition.

In their own words:

911 Hy Test

“It’s awesome to see Hy Test on the Bull of the Year list,” Jared Allen, owner Jared Allen’s Pro Bull Team and former NFL player.

8 Ole School

“I raised him so this is special because I developed him from a calf and to be on the list with that group of bulls is a proud moment… he is just getting strong enough to show what he is capable of on the tour,” Jeff Harris, Rafter J Ranch and 2014 CBR Stock Contractor of the Year.

1711 Too Juicy

“One of my favorite outs from this bull was when Aaron Pass was 90.5 points on him in Cheyenne World Finals last year,” Mike Rawson, 401 Bucking Bulls and 2015 World Champion Bull Team owner and 2015 Stock Contractor of the Year.

Sire: Too Juicy    Dam: David Weisner herd cow

2079 Cowtown Cartel

“I am honored to be in the company of these other stockmen, but it’s really about the bull; I just wrote a check to get him here; his Mama Cowtown Trash and Daddy Carrillo Cartel did the rest!”

3728 Yellowhair

According to Lyndal one of his rankest outs was with CBR World Champion, Sage Kimzey, during the final round of Rodeo Houston in 2015 where he bucked off the Hurst Pro Rodeo bull.

“Yellowhair is a special animal. He’s got the power that you would expect from a bull his size but he’s also got the finesse of a bull half his size. He’s just a great athlete and he’s a pet too!” said Kimzey.

626 Karaoke

“It is a great honor to have Karaoke in the running for bucking bull of the year, he has been a great bull for us and has never had an off day and always gives it his all every time the gate opens,” Mike White, Elite Bucking Bulls - Jeri Harmon and Mike White.

Sire: Wildnights    Dam: Warpath cow

CR Corpus Red

“As we have decided to retire him in Cheyenne, it would be the greatest thing for him to go out as bucking bull of the year,” said JC Knapp, co-owner with Amber Knapp of CR Corpus Red.

J908 Outside the Box

“I think it’s an honor that he is nominated, I really love this bull, he was a slow developer and was not a great futurity calf, but now he loves to buck. He likes to go on the trailer and he is calm all the time. I also like that he never tries to hurt the riders and comes out clean in the chutes,” Jimmy Jaynes, owner.

Sire: Jed Clampett   Dam: Wild Thing (Creekbend 302 daughter)

050 Gold Buckle

“Probably on of the most consistent rank bulls I’ve ever unloaded off the trailers, he’ll give it his all every time the gate cracks open and if they make the eight the boys are headed to the bank!” Brett Barrett, Championship Pro Rodeo

Sire:  Lightening Jack     Dam: M17 daughter

1137 Cowbanger

“Electric bull and wired up you know he’s going to be rank every time he may not have the same trip but you can bet on it he’s going to do everything he can to get that cowboy off his back,” Brett Barrett, Championship Pro Rodeo.

Sire: I’ma Gangster     Dam: Big Bucks daughter

Over 290 different bulls competed during the 2015-2016 CBR regular season. With over 720 outs, the CBR Road to Cheyenne season saw over sixty 90/+ marked bull rides.
