Days of Thunder

For young athletes, sports activities are much more than play. Participation improves overall physical fitness, coordination, and self-discipline and gives youngsters the opportunity to learn teamwork.

It is no different for the 57 young bovine athletes who form the 19 teams of two-year-old bulls descending upon the Bicentennial Center on Saturday, March 26.  The bulls will compete in Salina at 8 am at the Bicentennial Center in the second of a three event series which offers a rare glimpse into the future of rodeo and the professional bull riding tours through these four-legged adolescents.

Just like this year’s sponsor, Thunder Struck Truck Accessories, these young bulls are the elite of the bull business and they too boast a “Made in the USA” label.

You will see these talented athletes strut their stuff while being scored on their athleticism. The judges’ scores are based on each bull’s ability to kick, perform with strength, while maintaining intensity combined with how quickly they turn back after exciting the bucking chute with speed.

The high marked calf in the CFT season opener in Lufkin last month was from the second place team of H.D Page’s team Thunder. Anchored by 16B-, this calf showcased Page’s breeding program for what it is and has been for many years, one of the industry’s top producers of bovine athletes.

16B-’s sire is 135X Best Wishes who was sired by Best Shot and out of a Western Wishes daughter. His dam is Page -3X (by S45 High Society X Page 90-161 who stems from Broke Back V and  Mossy Oak Mudslinger's dam). 16B- is owned by D&H Cattle Company and Flinn. He is an exceptional calf and all eyes will be on him when he leaves the chute in Salina.

Since its beginning in 2012, the CBR Championship Futurity Tour (CFT) has grown into one of the most competitive limited aged events in the bucking bull industry. The special event series, produced by CBR consists of events held in Lufkin, Texas, Salina, Kansas, and the CFT World Finale held in conjunction with the Conroe Bull Mania on October 1 in Conroe, Texas. A combined purse of $227,500 was awarded in 2015.
