Kimzey, Barker and Benton Qualify for Championship Round at RODEOHOUSTON

For 19 days bull riders have been competing at RodeoHouston in a three round Super Series bull riding which included five brackets, two semifinals, a wild card contest and finally at 3:45 pm today the Super Series Championship Round at the NRG Center in Houston, Texas.

CBR Riders Sage Kimzey, Trey Benton, and Reid Barker all survived Rodeo’s version of March Madness to ride for the Championship, but bull riders are not the only CBR regulars in Houston. CBR Stock Contractor and multiple bull team challenge event winner Lyndal Hurst of Lubbock Texas will supply five of the ten bulls in today’s finals.

Riding in as one of the two cowboys to earn the most money in the bull riding edition of the 2016 Rodeo Houston, CBR cowboy Trey Benton III has drawn 2148 Girl Money from Four L and Diamond S Rodeo. Ridden only once in 8 outs, this bull has only been on the rodeo trail for one year. TB3 is known to like a challenge and no doubt this matchup with be a great one for the three time NFR qualifier. Benton enters the Championship Round with total earnings in Rodeo Houston of $8,500.

No. 1 ranked CBR bull rider and 2014 CBR World Champion, Sage Kimzey will have his hands full with Four L and Diamond S Rodeo’s 9002 Sharp Shooter who has only been ridden twice since 2012 when he debuted on the professional bucking bull circuits.  A grandson of the great Panhandle Slim you could safely say this bull was bred to buck and with a lifetime statistic of 100 percent buck off of left handers and 78 percent of right handers - he is a handful.

As a known student of his craft, there is no doubt that Sage Kimzey knows this bull. Although he has not attempted him he watched Cody Teel ride him for 87 points and $20,000 in round 7 of the National Finals Rodeo in December. Ten times in his career 9002 has produced a trip good enough to win the round with the highest bull score at PRCA rodeo. But if I was the bull I would beware also because Kimzey won both of his rounds thus far in Houston for a total of 6,000 in his bid to be the back to back RodeoHouston bull riding champion.

CBR World Finals and NFR qualifier Reid Barker will attempt Lyndal Hurst’s Yellowhair for the first time in his career, but he will not have to phone a friend from the locker room to get advice on riding this superstar from CBR stock contractor Lyndal Hurst. Barker has been on the back of the chutes many times this season as this great bucker has earned Barker’s bull riding buddies big money and a few event titles. Barker enters the championship round with a total of $5,500.
