Hats off to the CBR Riders at Rodeo Houston

It was Deja vu for CBR's No. 1 ranked bull rider Sage Steele Kimzey as he won the first semifinal round at Rodeo Houston Wednesday night riding Hou's American Ride for 87 points. Kimzey was more than familiar with this bull having ridden him for the second time in his career. He first met the bull in round 5 of the PRCA's National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in 2014 where he rode him for 87 points and the round win. Kimzey bumped his Houston earnings to $6,000 total and earned $3,000 from last night's round win. Kimzey is the defending Rodeo Houston Champion.

"These are the rodeos that I grew up fantasizing about winning and to be here is a dream come true," Kimzey said.

Trey Benton III will advance with his third place finish which added $1,000 to his RH earnings. Benton rode FL and Diamond S's Summer Nights for 84 points. This was also a rematch for Benton who bucked off the bull in 2014 at a PRCA rodeo.

Reid Barker was 82 points and a fourth place finish on CBR stock contractor Lyndal Hurst's Cajun Hotline which was only the second recorded qualified ride on this bull.

Cody Rostockyj was 77 points which will not advance him from the semifinal round but he gets another shot at it Friday night as he rides in the Rodeo Houston Wildcard round which could put him to the final round if he is first or second.  Brennon Eldred and Tim Bingham bucked off but will also have another chance via the Wild Card round as well.

Advancing to Championship Round (winnings to date at Rodeo Houston):

Sage Steel Kimzey Strong City, Oklahoma $6,000

Scottie Knapp Albuquerque, New Mexico $6,000

Trey Benton Rock Island, Texas $8,500

Reid Barker Comfort, Texas $5,500

The top four from each event in the Semifinal rounds will advance to the RodeoHouston Super Series Championship, Saturday, March 19. The remaining six from each event in the two semifinals will compete in the Wild Card Round, Friday, March 18, where the top two from each event will advance to the Championship. Each event champion will walk away with a $50,000 payout, in addition to previous winnings.

The second braket of semifinals is tonight where CBR's Aaron Pass and Joe Frost will compete. Action gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be followed on

Top four from each event move on to the Championship while the bottom 6 from each event go to the Wild Card round. Two from each Wildcard round advance to the Championship round to compete with the top 4 from each semifinal round. But the Championship Round is not where it ends, the top four in each event will ride again for the shoot out titles.
