Three Time World Champion Bull Rider, Sage Kimzey, Looks to Las Vegas for Another Win

Sage Steele Kimzey, three-time Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) World Champion, returns to Las Vegas to compete for the opportunity to win another title during the Tuff Hedeman Vegas Shootout, which is scheduled to return to South Point Hotel Arena & Equestrian Center on Saturday, March 5 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Kimzey took over the Championship Bull Riding (CBR) World Standings on Saturday, Feb. 20, with his first 2016 Road to Cheyenne Tour win in Bossier City, La. The Tuff Hedeman Vegas Shootout will feature Kimzey’s attempt to keep the top ranking against several of bull riding’s fiercest competitors. Joining Kimzey, No. 2 ranked rider Cody Rostockyj, Hillsboro, Tex. will be fighting for to regain the No. 1 spot. Behind Rostockyj is Cody Teel, the 2012 PRCA World Champion and the reigning 2016 CBR World Champ who rode 8 of 10 bulls to try and unseat Kimzey at the National Finals Rodeo (NFR). Adding to the lineup will be No. 4 ranked Jacob O’Mara, the Cajun cowboy from Prairieville, La., who is the hottest rider on tour and winner of two televised 2016 Road to Cheyenne events.
This year’s event in Las Vegas has not only attracted Kimzey and the hottest riders in the circuit, but the roster also features Brennon Eldred, the 2014 Vegas Shootout Champion, and Juan Alonzo who recently retired from a five-year career with the Army and returned to the United States to live his dream of riding bucking bulls on the professional tours.
The Las Vegas round is the eleventh stop on Championship Bull Riding’s (CBR) Road to Cheyenne Tour which pits the industry’s elite riders against the best bulls in a three-round tournament style action. The field of competition starts with 24 riders, then narrows down to 12 and then down to four in the Shoot Out where they will battle for the lion’s share of $30,000 in prize money. The night’s excitement will culminate as the final four bull riders will get a third opportunity to ride in a winner take all ending. The format appeals to new spectators and established fans alike because riders can challenge as many as three bulls in one performance.
In addition to lucrative prize money, bull riders accumulate points, which qualify them for the CBR World Finals, part of the legendary Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration held Wyoming in July. At the end of the CBR World Finals, the contestant who has the most points will be crowned the World Champion and receive a $100,000 bonus.
Known for action-packed performances that keep fans on the edge of their seats and with a new show debuting on the Road to Cheyenne, this year’s Tuff Hedeman Vegas Shootout is set to impress.
