Local Bull Rider Gears Up to Compete with 4 World Champions in Conroe

CONROE, Texas, September 22, 2015 – Bull riding will take center stage on Saturday night, October 3, at the Lone Star Expo Arena where Houston’s Demond Haynes will battle five World Champion bull riders, including the number one ranked bull rider in the world, Sage Steel Kimzey, and reigning CBR World Champion, Cody Teel, on the fourth stop of Championship Bull Riding’s (CBR) 2016 Mahindra Road to Cheyenne tour at the Conroe Bull Mania Powered by J5 Tractors and brought to you by Gullo Ford.

Demond Haynes recently broke into the CBR World Standings for the first time with solid showings on the last two tour stops, Window Rock, Ariz., and Laughlin, Nevada. Demond Haynes comes to the CBR not only as a bull rider but as a partner with Houston stock contractor William Barnett’s Warrior bull team in the CBR’s Bull Team Challenge competition.

Haynes, the reigning National Professional Bull Riders year-end champion, made the final four Shoot Out round in his first CBR Mahindra Road to Cheyenne tour event in Window Rock, Arizona earlier this month.

Exclusive Genetics owner Billy Jaynes, Orchard, Texas, had this to say about the up and coming bull rider from Houston.

“Demond’s a great kid, super polite and not afraid to spur one. When he is riding his best and his confidence is high, he goes for it and that is usually what the great ones do.”

Most people remember World Champion Cody Teel riding ZY HEZ Twisted at the World Finals, but it was Demond that rode him first at the Exclusive Genetics Finals in December of 2014. The son of a bull rider, rodeo is all Haynes has ever known. He began his career at age four and by seven he was riding steers. “It’s all I ever wanted to do.”

Demond Haynes and Craig Jackson will represent Houston in the elite bull riding competition which features a tournament style format that appeals to fans because riders can challenge as many as three bulls in one performance. Immediately following the bull riding action, country music TV host and internet sensation, Chad Prather, takes the stage during intermission.  The action starts at 8:00 p.m. with 24 athletic cowboys testing their skills against some of the best bovines in the industry doing their best to hang on for eight seconds. The top 12 from round one advance to a semifinal round where they will do their best to be among the final four riders in the Shoot Out where the bulk of the $30,000 in prize money is paid.

In addition to the lucrative prize money, bull riders accumulate points which qualify them for the World Finals, which will be in Wyoming next July as part of the historical Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration. Those points become very important as the rider who ends the World Finals at the top of the standings will be crowned the CBR World Champion and will receive a $100,000 bonus to be awarded in Cheyenne at the legendary Cheyenne Frontier Days.

Locally owned World Champion Bucking Bull, Penny Lover, and other champion bulls from the national tour will be making the trip to Montgomery County as well. CBR features the unique CBR Bull Team Challenge “other side of the ride” competition where the crème of the crop in bovine athletes provide the bull power for the three bull teams that are featured during the first two rounds of the contest. The bulls receive points for their performance in the arena. Additionally, the time the bull rider stays on is added to the bull’s score. At the end of the night, the owner with the three highest-scoring bulls will receive a total purse worth $20,000.

Fans will have two opportunities to see the talented animal athletes of the industry as the CBR Championship Futurity Tour World Finals gets underway on Saturday morning at 8:00 am. 90 two-year-old bucking bulls will be featured as the future superstars of the CBR compete for a $50,000 check to be awarded to the owner of the winning three-bull team.

CBR has become known for their action-packed performances that keep fans on the edge of their seats. That is largely due to the influence of four-time World Champion Bull Rider Tuff Hedeman who coordinates every element and attends to the smallest details. From having great bulls matched up with super star riders, to upbeat music and enthusiastic fans, the Conroe Bull Mania will be second to none.
