Top 3 Ranked Bull Riders in the World Headed to Laughlin to Compete

All eyes are on Laughlin, Nevada as the three top ranked bull riders in the world roll into town for the Colorado River Chute Out presented by the Laughlin Tourism Commission on Saturday, September 12. The Laughlin Events Center is preparing for the twenty four top ranked Championship Bull Riders (CBR) who have qualified to compete on the dirt in front of the events center as the CBR brings the third stop of the 2016 Mahindra Road to Cheyenne televised tour to Laughlin. Bull riding fans will be treated to two hours of live entertainment and heart pounding nonstop action, 8 seconds at a time.

CBR and PRCA World Champion Cody Teel of Kountze, Texas is traveling to Laughlin to defend his title for the first time since being crowned the 2015 CBR World Champion in July by riding all five of his bulls to win the $100,000 bonus check and a 50,000 prize package. Challenging him will be Sage Steele Kimzey the 2014 CBR and PRCA World Champion, who is currently the no. 1 ranked PRCA bull rider in the World, and the CBR World Finals Average Champion and No. 2 ranked PRCA bull rider Brennon Eldred of Sulphur, Oklahoma.

“Teel is an impressive guy,” said Tuff Hedeman, the 4 time World Champion and Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame inductee who now produces the nationally televised Mahindra Road to Cheyenne Tour events. “Teel is the kind of guy that can make the whistle when it matters the most and that makes him a winner. Sage Kimzey is a rare talent. Probably the most talented bull rider I have seen in 15 years, and it is a great opportunity for the fans to see such a great athlete who has accomplished so much so quickly.”

Eldred, an Oklahoma bull rider who according to Hedeman has matured rapidly over the last six months, is looking forward to taking on the two bull riding super stars in what is shaping up to be a preview of the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December.

With 30 years of bull riding history on his resume, Tuff Hedeman is one of the most recognizable cowboys in the history of rodeo, but he defers to the young super stars as the best bull riding talent he has seen in years.

The former 4 time world titled Hedeman, who in recent years has made a name for himself in the production of great bull riding events, arrives in Laughlin as the Ambassador and Chute Boss for the CBR event which pits the industry’s elite riders against the industry’s best bulls.

The competition will feature the CBR 8 Second Format, which features a three round no guarantee tournament style format; the only way for cowboys to earn a paycheck is to ride better than the rest of the 24-man field. The field of competition which starts with 24 riders, the highest 12 scores return for the Semi Final Round and then four in the Shootout where they will battle for the lion’s share of the $30,000 in prize money. The format appeals to new spectators and established fans alike because riders can challenge as many as three bulls in one performance.

The competition is also part of the CBR Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge. Bull owners will bring three bulls that are featured during the first two rounds of competition. Those bulls receive points for their performance in the arena. Additionally, the time the bull rider stays on is added to the bull’s score. At the end of the night, the owner with the three highest-scoring bulls will receive a $20,000 check for his bulls’ performance. A total of $45,000 is awarded to the bulls and their owners.

In addition to lucrative prize money, bull riders accumulate points which qualify them for the World Finals, part of the legendary Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration held Wyoming next July. At the end of the World Finals, the contestant who has the most points will be crowned the World Champion and receive a $100,000 bonus, a Mahindra tractor, custom Fenoglio boots, a custom trophy saddle and a Hyo Silver gold buckle.

The doors will open at the Laughlin Events Center at 6:30 pm with an autograph opportunity for fans with CBR Horizon Champion Cody Rostockyj, with the bull riding action getting underway at 8:00 PM. Hedeman and the bull riders will be signing autographs on the arena floor immediately following the event. This year’s arena entertainment is three time PRCA Clown of the Year and National Finals Rodeo barrel man, Justin Rumford.

CBR has become known for their action-packed performances that keep fans on the edge of their seats and with a new show debuting in Laughlin, this year’s Colorado River Chute Out is set to impress. From having great bulls matched up with super star riders, to upbeat music and enthusiastic fans there is something for everyone at the CBR Colorado River Chute Out.
