Championship Bull Riding Readies Laughlin for the Colorado River Chute Out

The undisputed number one bull rider in Championship Bull Riding (CBR), 23 year old, CBR and PRCA World Champion, Cody Teel of Kountze, Texas, is set to ride next month in the Colorado River Chute Out presented by the Laughlin Tourism Commission.  On September 12th, in the Laughlin Events Center, bull riding fans will have the rare opportunity to see the #1 bull rider in the world that rode five of five bulls in Cheyenne to win his second world champion bull riding title that came with an eMax 22 Gear Mahindra tractor, custom Juan Jose Muñoz Andrade saddle, custom Fenoglio Boots, a Hyo Silver gold buckle, and a check for $100,000.

“Teel is an impressive guy,” said Tuff Hedeman, the 4 time World Champion and Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame inductee who now produces the nationally televised Mahindra Road to Cheyenne Tour events. “Because what he has inside is the difference between winning and losing.”

“He puts forth incredible effort each time he pulls his rope,” continued Hedeman.  With 30 years of bull riding history on his resume, Tuff Hedeman is one of the most recognizable cowboys in the history of rodeo, but he defers to the young super star that is the reigning CBR and the 2012 Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association World Champion, as one of the best bull riding talents he has seen in over 15 years.

The former 4 time world titled Hedeman, who in recent years has made a name for himself in the production of great bull riding events, arrives in Laughlin for the CBR for the second time with a roster that features twenty-four of the best bull riders in the world including the 2014 CBR and PRCA World Champion, Sage Steele Kimzey.  This year’s event is the third stop on the twelve month 2016 Mahindra Championship Bull Riding’s (CBR) Road to Cheyenne Tour which pits the industry’s elite riders against the industry’s best bulls in a three round tournament style event. The doors will open at the Laughlin Events Center at 6:30 PM with the bull riding action getting underway at 8:00 PM. Hedeman will be signing autographs with the bull riders following the event. This year’s arena entertainment is three time PRCA Clown of the Year and National Finals Rodeo barrel man, Justin Rumford.

This year’s competition will feature the CBR 8 Second Format which features a three round no guarantee tournament style format; the only way for cowboys to earn a paycheck is to ride better than the rest of the 24-man field.  The field of competition which starts with 24 riders, then the top 12 scores return for the Semi Final Round and then four in the Shootout where they will battle for the lion’s share of the $30,000 in prize money. The night’s excitement will culminate as the final four bull riders will get a third opportunity to ride in a winner take all ending. The format appeals to new spectators and established fans alike because riders can challenge as many as three bulls in one performance.

In addition to lucrative prize money, bull riders accumulate points which qualify them for the World Finals, part of the legendary Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration held in Wyoming next July. At the end of the World Finals, the contestant who has the most points will be crowned the world champion and receive a $100,000 bonus.

The Laughlin event will also feature the “other side of the ride”, CBR’s Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge. Bull owners from all around the country will bring three bulls that are featured during the first two rounds of competition. The bulls are competing for points based on their performance in the arena. Additionally, the time the bull rider stays on is added to the bull’s score. At the end of the night, the owner with the three highest-scoring bulls will receive $20,000.

After spending the day hiking, swimming, or golfing, you can return and treat yourself to one of Laughlin’s premier night life event. CBR has become known for their action-packed performances that keep fans on the edge of their seats and with a new show debuting in Laughlin, this year’s Colorado River Chute Out is set to impress. From having great bulls matched up with super star riders, to upbeat music and enthusiastic fans there is something for everyone at the CBR Colorado River Chute Out.
