The Other Royals from Kansas

There were over 500 bulls used on Championship Bull Riding’s Mahindra Road to Cheyenne tour during the 2014-15 competitive season. Seventeen of those bulls came off of Brad Vogele’s trailer and represented the partners of Silver Creek, -D Cattle’s bull team franchise during the 2014-2015 season.  Narrowing that group to a set of three bucking bovines to travel with you to Cheyenne is no easy task.

Brad Vogele, from Arkansas City, Kansas, who has been a part of the CBR World Finals since 2008, is the co-owner with Dave and Shari Kielhorn of two Championship Bull Riding’s team franchises.  Vogele has a simple philosophy when selecting stock for the upcoming CBR World Finals event held in conjunction with Cheyenne Frontier Days.

“Finding the right set of bulls that they (cowboys) will ride and want to get on is the only goal,” said the 2010 CBR Stock Contractor of the Year, Brad Vogele.

Usually it is the bulls that rack up the stats, but Vogele’s team finished fourth amongst the 48 CBR stock contractors in the number of qualified rides (19) supplied on the 2015 Mahindra Road to Cheyenne.

Finding bulls that are good enough for Tuff Hedeman’s selection process is sometimes difficult, so Vogele often relies on those that he has raised.  052, known as American Fire, has grown to become one of Vogele’s go-to bucking bulls. Since 2014, 052 has had 20 combined outs in CBR and PRCA, resulting in 10 or 50% qualified rides.

Three of those qualified rides were for 90 points or better with two of them posted by 2014 CBR World Finals Champion, Neil Holmes, and once by the reigning CBR World Champion Sage Kimzey once when he won his first CBR in 2014 in El Paso.

052, Vogele’s anchor bull, has an average ride score of 89 on the CBR televised tour with five outs in 2014-15 season, four of them resulting in ride scores, two of them 90 points or better.

The cowboys that hail his praises include Cody Teel, Chandler Bownds, Neil Holmes and Sage Kimzey.

Vogele’s Silver Creek Pro Rodeo also provided bulls to the National Finals Rodeo in 2014. Dougie, who is also a CBR bull of the year candidate and twice the CBR Bounty Bull this year, represented the Kansas stock contractor at the year-end PRCA event.

“When you really sit back and look, it’s such an honor to be able to be here and participate and have a hand in maybe helping a cowboy to win,” said Vogele.
