$70,000 Prize Money Lures 5 World Champions to Mercedes

Mercedes, Texas - October 7, 2014 – South Texas bull riding fans it is time to mark your calendar for October 18th. If you like high energy, live action, 8 seconds at a time then CBR has just the thing for you! Championship Bull Riding (CBR) is making history as it brings the third stop of the 2014-15 televised “Road to Cheyenne” tour to Mercedes, Texas. CBR will offer the diehard bull riding fans of Texas the opportunity to see great bucking bulls and bull riding action followed by a concert featuring Texas recording artist Aaron Watson.

For the first time in the history of Championship Bull Riding 24 bull riders will travel to Mercedes, Texas in an attempt to collect an unprecedented $70,000 first place purse recently made available after no rider completed the an 8 second ride in the Shootout Round of the last two events in the winner take all format of the Road to Cheyenne Tour events held in Huron, South Dakota and Conroe, Texas. In spite of a gallant effort, 5 World Champions, 6 rookies, and 13 veterans rode only 13 out of 40 bulls at the Montgomery County Lone Star Arena. But more importantly none of those thirteen came in the Shootout round thus leaving the first place prize of $50,000 unclaimed.  Last weekend in Conroe, Trey Benton, Rock Island, Texas won the average on two bulls  defeating his former traveling partner, Cody Teel, Kountze, Texas, by 4.5 points, but neither could make the required 8 second whistle to pocket the $50,000 thus rolling over the prize monies to a $70, 000 plus payday for the next regular season CBR event. The former traveling partners and good friends will both be back in Mercedes trying to make the whistle and history once again.

The Ed Payne- Real Don Johnson “Bulls on the Border” Bull Bash Presented By Tecate Light & Powered by Riveras Machinery will be held at 8 PM at the Mercedes Livestock Show Arena located at 1000 North Texas Avenue. Saturday night’s lineup will follow the revolutionary three round CBR 8 Second Format featuring a tournament style of competition. The top 24 bull riders in the world will do their best to stay on for eight seconds in round one so they can advance to the Semi Finals. The 12 top scores get to ride in the Semi Finals with the best four advancing to a Shootout round where the bulk of the $70,000 in prize money is paid.
