Three Ace bulls win big for Andrus and Barker in Vegas at CBR Championship Futurity Tour

LAS VEGAS, April 19, 2014 –The Championship Futurity Tour (CFT) 2014 season is well underway with the second of four competitive bucking bull events now in the books.

With the lights of Las Vegas bright behind the bucking chutes, breeders brought their best to the two-year-old bull team division Championship Futurity Tour (CFT) at the South Point Hotel and Casino. Twenty teams of three bulls each competed for the $20,000 cash prize, championship buckle and a guaranteed qualifying slot for the tour’s World Finals to be held October 4th in Conroe, Texas, at the Lonestar Expo Center.

A total of $37,000 in prize money was awarded Saturday morning to five teams with the top honors going to Andrus and Barker whose team had a score of 259.25. Leading the New Mexico based team with a score of 87.25 was #222 Down Time, a bull that exhibited great strength with the ability to turn back quickly bucking steady with near perfect timing. The bull sired by Comanche Man and out of a Coffee Time cow was bred by Andrus’s partners, Larry and Brandon Barker of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

“We bucked everything we have last week and picked this team. Our bulls have to haul over eleven hours anywhere we go, so they have to be able to take the road which is an advantage at times,” said Marc Andrus. “This bull has not let us down leading our team earlier this year to a 5th place finish in the Lufkin, Texas, event. He’s placed everywhere we go,” Andrus added. They have been part of the CBR Bull Team competition for over 3 years.

The Jaynes Gang & Friends, Orchard, Texas, came in second posting a 258.50 aggregate score, just .75 behind Andrus and Barker with Mike Rawson, the reigning CBR Stock Contractor of the year sliding in .25 points behind the runners up.

As the next generation of buckers showcased at the South Point Casino, Scott and Heather Burleson had the two top scoring bulls of the competition. With the same team bulls that won the first tour stop in Lufkin, Texas, Burleson’s Houdini Martini led the field with an 89.25 followed by teammate Case Closed with an 88.75.

The CBR Championship Futurity Tour continues in May 24 in Myrtle Springs, Texas at the Lonnie Austin Indoor Arena.

The following are results from the CFT event included in the Tuff Hedeman Vegas Shoot Out:

1, Andrus/Barker, Roswell, N.M., 259.25 $20,000. 2, Jaynes Gang & Friends, Orchard, Texas, 258.5 $7,000.  3, (tie), Rawson/Martinez, Martinsville, Texas, and Dug Dugan, Stephenville, Texas, 258.25 $4,000 each. 5, Chism/4G/Massey/Griffin, Kerens, Texas, 257.25 $2,500.
