Rookie Tanner Learmont Wins First Night of Competition at CBR World Championships in Cheyenne

Cole Echols Increases Lead In Quest For First CBR World Championship Title

It may have been a cool Wyoming night but the bull riding during the first night of the 2013 CBR World Championships at Cheyenne Frontier Days™ was HOT! Going into tonight’s competition, Louisiana cowboy Cole Echols only had six bulls left to ride in order to clench a CBR World Championship title and tonight, he is two bulls closer. Echols increased his lead with two qualified rides: Scoring 88 points on “Change Up” owned by Team Bays/EG; and scoring 85 points on “Blue Bucks” owned by Knapp/B & E. But the big news may be that neither of his closest competitors, Cooper Davis or Ardie Maier, covered a bull all night. Echols now controls his own destiny to claim his first CBR World Championship.

Three- time World Champion JW Harris had a great night taking the early lead and the opportunity to win his second Mahindra Tractor, but in the end it was CBR rookie Tanner Learmont that made one of the best rides of his early career to tie for first place in the second round and capture the average by a half point over the veteran World Champion. Learmont was one of three riders to cover two bulls: Scoring 87 points on “Bois D’Arc” owned by Mike Rawson; and scoring 90 points on “Palace Station John Doe” owned by Lyndal Hurst. The rookie proved his worth to ride with the best of the best at the World Championships.

In total 15 bulls were covered on the first night of competition during the 2013 CBR World  Championships at Cheyenne Frontier Days™. The exciting action continues tomorrow night!
