Tuffs Picks for Cheyenne Performance Night One

Tuff’s Picks for the First Night of CBR World Championships
We’ve come to the end of another great season of Championship Bull Riding. For the 24 guys set to compete in the finals, this is what it all comes down to - There’s a lot of money up for grabs, not to mention the World Champion title. We’re just over a day from knowing who walks away with the buckle and tonight’s performance should kick the finals off with a bang. The CBR World Championships at Cheyenne Frontier Days pits the best bull riders out there against the toughest bulls in the business. From the looks of today’s draw sheet it’s going to be a spectacular show.
In the first round, number-two cowboy Cooper Davis has Corpus Red. Cooper’s really in the race for a world title and he’s drawn a bull he can be a lot of points on. Corpus Red bucks really hard and he’s usually in the short go everywhere he goes.  He should fit Cooper and give him a chance to gain some ground.
J.W. Harris is always a guy to watch and he has drawn Little Nicky, a bull who’s unridden so far. He’s a bull I think guys should ride, though, and I think J.W. will do that tonight. If he does he’ll be 90 on him for sure.
Wes Silcox has a bull called Lumberjack that guys love to get on. They ride him quite a bit but every time they do they’re a bunch of points. Wes has a good shot at getting this one covered.
Cody Teel was hurt for part of this year but I think he’s healthy now. He’s really been tearing it up at the rodeos lately. He’s got Big Poppa Pump tonight. I think he’s only been ridden once this year but it was for 91 points, so if Cody makes the whistle he’ll be on the right track to win the finals.
Another guy I’m watching in the first section is Chandler Bownds on a bull called Stick. He has been ridden a couple times this year for 91, and should be a good draw for Chandler.
The finals format is a little different, so every guy will be getting on two bulls tonight. In the second go, Jared Long has Ragin JT, which is one of the top three to five bulls out there in my opinion. Most of the time I would take Jared because he rides well away from his hand, but I think this is his first major event since breaking his leg and having surgery. I’m not going to say he can’t ride him - but he’s got a tough bull.
Trey Benton has been riding great and just won the Salinas Rodeo yesterday. His second bull tonight is Outside the Box, who hasn’t been ridden all year. This is a bull guys should ride and, even though he’ll go away from Trey’s hand, I think he’s got a good shot at making a qualified ride.
Clayton Foltyn has drawn Cash Daddy. They scored 90 on this bull earlier in the year and Cooper Davis won Lubbock on him. He’s easily a 22.5-point bull and probably one of the best bulls out tonight. If Clayton makes the whistle he’ll have a good start to his finals.
Of course, everyone is watching current standings leader Cole Echols. He has a narrow lead over Cooper Davis and he’s drawn a couple good bulls for tonight’s performance. His first bull is Change Up that is a really good bull. He’s one Cole is certainly supposed to ride. In the second round, he has Blue Bucks and that’s a good draw. He’s definitely got a shot at maintaining – or even increasing - his lead.
Having our finals at Cheyenne Frontier Days™ is absolutely awesome. There’s a lot of tradition associated with the Daddy of ‘em All®. The caliber of bulls and riders we have here are second-to-none, and on top of that, we’ve got a good race for the 2013 CBR World Champion buckle going. It’s bound to be a great week here in Cheyenne!
