Clayton Foltyn Headed To Cheyenne

Former CBR World Champion (2011) Clayton Foltyn has been getting plenty of windshield time this summer. He and his traveling partner, Cole Echols, are headed out west for a month to compete at a handful of rodeos and bull ridings, culminating with the CBR World Championship in Cheyenne, Wyoming at the end of July.  Foltyn has shown a lot of promise as a professional rodeo cowboy, and started out on top when he was named PRCA's Rookie of the Year in 2004.  Lately, though, he has had a run of bad luck - injuries that left him sidelined, draws that made it difficult for him to score, and a burglary at his home in which all of his world champion trophies and memorabilia were stolen. A lesser man might throw in the towel. Clayton, however, is more determined than ever to make it back to the top.

“I’m disappointed, but that’s life. Just got to get out there and try harder. I think I am on the right path. Being healthy helps and I’m hoping to end the year strong. My wife and I hope that someone will have a good heart and at least return the items that cannot be replaced. In the meantime, I am going to try to win more." Foltyn earned the 2009 All-Around title at the "Daddy of 'em All," Cheyenne Frontier Days, and has his sights set on the champions' buckles again this summer when he returns to compete at both the PRCA rodeo and CBR’s World Championship event on July 22 & 23. “It will be a struggle, but I hope I can finish at least in the top 5 and maybe even win the CBR Cheyenne event. There is a lot of money on the line, a lot of bulls to cover and anything can happen.”

Clayton is traveling with Cole Echols, currently ranked number one in the CBR world standings and an odds-on favorite for this year's world title. We asked if he had any advice for the Louisiana rider.
“I told him I was going to win,” laughed Foltyn. “Seriously, I would love to, but Cole has a great shot at it. He has worked hard and deserves it. It is the proudest moment you will ever feel to slip that buckle on your belt and wear it. It is a symbol of many years of ups and downs and sacrifices. I cherish mine and I know that I will get there again.”

We want to hear from our fans on this one. Do you think Clayton can win another CBR world title or make it to the WNFR? Weigh in on the conversation on Championship Bull Riding’s Facebook page or Twitter feed.
