Cody Teel- Tough Rider, Big Heart

Cody Teel looks like your All-American boy next door. Tall, handsome and million dollar smile, but he is tough as nails and one of best bull riders on the planet, and he’s just getting started. The Kountze, Texas cowboy has already won one World Championship and will just turn twenty-one in a few days.  With plenty of opportunity and time ahead of him there is no telling what he will accomplish.
Says Teel, from his home in Texas, “I know I am young, but I just feel like this is my time. I’m healthy, my body feels good and I love what I am doing. I just need to take full advantage of the opportunities I have been given while I still can.”
This summer Teel will be busy crisscrossing the US in effort to gain back momentum in the bull riding world after taking nearly two months off to recuperate from surgery after shattering his elbow in Houston March 6.  Before his injury, he had already claimed two CBR event wins, Bossier City and Jackson, and was riding over 75 percent. He is currently 5th in the PRCA World Standings and 7th in the CBR World Standings and could very well rack up two more World Championship buckles before the year is out.
“I don’t like to think too much ahead of myself. I think that gets you in trouble. I mean it is definitely a goal, to win another World Championship, but at the same time I take one event at a time. Having the time off earlier this year gave me a chance to think and prepare myself mentally so that when I was ready, I would be fully prepared to be back in the arena.”
Teel retuned to the Championship Bull Riding arena last weekend for a benefit bull riding in West, Texas which helped the West Volunteer Fire Department, Special Victims Fund. Cody won the event and didn’t blink an eye as he handed the check right back to the organizers to be added to the fundraising efforts.
“It’s just the right thing to do. I think all of us riders feel there is just not enough you can do to help a situation like that, so if my little bit helps the bigger picture, then I am more than happy I could do it.”
Aside from some of the bigger Christmas in July rodeo events, Teel has his sights set on the CBR World Championships at Cheyenne Frontier Days, July 22 and 23. Twenty-four of the top riders in the CBR will compete in two days of competition. Nearly $500,000 on the line, $100,000 to the 2013 World Champion.  Will it be Cody Teel? Only 47 days until we find out!
