Del Rio ready for 36th George Paul Memorial Bull Riding
Friday and Saturday night bull riding fans in Del Rio will be more than ready for the oldest, continuous bull riding in the world, the 36th George Paul Memorial. Founded in 1978 to honor the 1968 Rodeo Cowboys’ Association world champion bull rider and National Finals Rodeo winner, George Paul, the stand-alone bull riding is considered the Grand Daddy of bull riding events. George Paul is the only professional bull rider to ever ride 79 consecutive bulls, a record which stands today. Event producer, Bobby Paul said, “George believed that he could ride any bull they ran in a chute. He had a religious workout ethic and many cowboys today maintain a training schedule and routine that he was doing 40 years ago before it was popular. He would be proud to be associated with the caliber of riders and bulls of Championship Bull Riding”. George Paul was killed in a plane accident in 1970.
Friday night features 40 bull riders with the high marked ride of Friday night earning the high scorer a chance at the Ram Country Bounty Bull sponsored by Ram Country Dodge of Del Rio. The Ram Bounty Bull Truck is valued at $35,000.
Saturday night 24 elite Championship Bull Riding contestants have a chance to win thousands of dollars in prize money with the new CBR format.  After the first 24 rides, the top 12 scores will have a chance at a second bull and, the best four rides of the twelve, will come back for the George Paul championship round.
The Ram Country Dodge dealer’s generosity does not stop Friday night  Ram Country has sweetened the pot by offering $5,000 to the winning riders’ charity of their choice. Bobby Paul and Nick Khoury said, “Before the final four rides on Saturday night, each of the 4 qualifiers will be asked by announcer Boyd Polhamus to name the organization they wish to ride for. It can be the families of the first responders who were killed in the town of West, Texas, last week, the Red Cross, Roping Dreams, Cancer Society, Justin Cowboys’ Crisis Fund, Heat Association, or their church. Just so it goes to someone in need or an organization that is dedicated to helping others. It’s up to those who qualify for the championship round and we hope all contestants have someone in mind when they come to Del Rio”.
Performances start at 7:00 PM nightly. Title sponsor for the 36th George Paul Memorial Bull riding is Ram Country Dodge of Del Rio.
