CBR Riders Head to Houston

CBR Riders Head to Houston

Some of Championship Bull Riding’s top riders will be competing for their share of the $2 million in prize money awarded at Rodeo Houston. The first performance is tonight and the rodeo concludes March 17th. Rodeo Houston only selects the top riders to compete and uses a bracket system with several rounds of competition. The first part of the bracket is a Super Series, a round built of three performances. The top four riders from each Super Series advance to the Semifinal rounds and ten contestants from each event make it to the Championship round.

The first performance of Super Series I is tonight and J.W. Harris is the CBR rider to watch. Not only is J.W. already a three-time World Champion, he’s been riding well. He won the first round at San Antonio’s PRCA rodeo and went on to win both rounds of his bracket in the semi-finals. J.W. is currently sitting seventh in the Championship Bull Riding Road to Cheyenne Tour standings.

Thursday night Super Series II riders get their first shot at some money in Houston and there will be several CBR cowboys in the draw. Josh Barentine, 2012 CBR World Champion and Horizon Series Champion, is part of Super Series II. 2011 PRCA Rookie of the Year and CBR regular Chandler Bownds and young gun Cooper Davis, who’s sitting fourth in the CBR Road to Cheyenne Tour standings, will also be out in Super Series II.

The only CBR rider out in Super Series III, which begins on Sunday, March 3rd, is Wesley Silcox. Wesley is currently eighth in the CBR’s Road to Cheyenne Tour standings.

Super Series IV begins on Wednesday, March 6th and is chock full of CBR riders. Current Road to Cheyenne Tour leader and 2012 PRCA World Champion Cody Teel is one to watch in this division of the bracket. Ardie Maier is hot on Cody’s heels in the Road to Cheyenne Tour standings and he’ll plan to give him a run for his money in Houston, too. Fellow CBR rider Trey Benton will compete alongside them. Trey is fresh off winning the Lufkin event but is still recovering from injury.

Super Series V starts on Sunday, March 10th and the only CBR rider on the roster is young Tyler Willis.
