CBR Bull Riders Among National Finals Rodeo Contestants

Ten of the top 15 bull riders in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association have something in common – they’re also among Championship Bull Riding’s top athletes. These ten cowboys are now gearing up to compete at the National Finals Rodeo, the world series of the sport, which kicks off this Thursday in Las Vegas, Nev.

Among the familiar names on the NFR contestant list is three-time PRCA World Champion and CBR Cinch Tour standout, J.W. Harris, who will be making his sixth consecutive NFR appearance. J.W. is currently sitting second in the standings behind Shane Proctor but the NFR has been good to him in the past and he could make up a lot of ground there. In 2010, J.W. tied the record for round wins in bull riding at the NFR after winning four rounds. He also won the NFR average title in 2008.

Wesley Silcox currently holds the third place position going into the finals. Although he wasn’t a force on the 2011 Cinch Tour, Wesley has qualified for the CBR Finals three times in the past and will head to the NFR for the sixth time later this week. Wesley trails standings leader Shane Proctor by quite a bit but, like J.W. Harris, the NFR has been good to him in the past. Last year, he placed in five of the ten rounds and won the ninth round.

CBR fans undoubtedly know the kind of year Clayton Foltyn has had. The 2011 CBR Cinch Tour Champion’s consistent riding benefited him in the PRCA standings as well and he heads to the NFR in the number five spot. Given the season he’s had and the way he’s been riding, there are not many who would bet against Clayton Foltyn in Las Vegas – or anywhere.

Other current and former CBR riders making the trip to Vegas include Trevor Kastner, Cody Whitney and Seth Glause, in sixth through eighth place respectively. CBR young gun and 2011 PRCA Bull Riding Rookie of the Year, Chandler Bownds, has qualified in tenth place. Tyler Willis, Steve Woolsey and Tate Stratton round out the list of CBR competitors at the National Finals Rodeo.

The first performance of the NFR will be broadcast live on GAC at 9:00 CST on Thursday. For complete contestant lists, schedule and TV listings, visit Stay tuned to or follow us on Facebook for updates on how your favorite CBR riders are doing in Las Vegas.
