Key Match-Ups For 2011 CBR Horizon Series Jackson

The CBR Horizon Series will be at the Oman Arena in Jackson, TN, tonight and tomorrow night for two exciting rounds of bull riding.  There will be plenty of top-notch riders in action, including 2010 CBR World Champion Luke Kelley.  Several of the guys currently in the top 10 in the 2011 standings are also entered, and they will be looking to move up the standings before the start of the 2011 CINCH CBR Tour next weekend in Hobbs, NM.

There will be plenty of talented bull riders in Jackson this weekend, and the bull power will also be impressive.  The list of stock contractors who will have bulls in Tennessee includes Scott Burruss, New Frontier Rodeo, Rickey West, Tony Sharp, Mark Lindsey, and Universal Pro Rodeo.  I've put together a list of five key match-ups for tonight's long round, and I've also included a list of Championship Round bulls.  If you have anything to add, please visit our Facebook page and give your input.  Also, you can always email me at:  Enjoy!

Justin Koon vs. Rick James
Justin Koon has started his 2011 season off pretty well, including a second-place finish in Stephenville in late November.  He is currently 22nd in the standings.  His long-round draw tonight is Rick James, a bull owned by Scott Burruss.  He hasn't been out in any big CBR events, but he is a bull who can help a guy get into the mid 80s.  Koon should be able to get the job done and start the event with a qualified ride.
My Pick:  Justin Koon

Friday Wright vs. Flash
Friday Wright started 2010 on a roll before struggling down the stretch.  He was probably ready to get 2011 going, and he is currently off to a decent start at 23rd in the standings.  His draw for tonight's long round is Flash, another bull owned by Scott Burruss.  He didn't have any CBR outs in 2010, but he had a few in 2009.  He has been a tough bull to get a qualified ride on, but Friday should ride him and end up somewhere in the mid-to-high 80s.
My Pick:  Friday Wright

Craig Sasse vs. Icy Hot
Not many riders finished the 2010 season on a bigger hot streak than Craig Sasse.  He registered two top-five finishes in his last three events, and he will be looking to kick off 2011 this weekend in Tennessee.  His long-round draw tonight is Icy Hot, a bull owned by New Frontier Rodeo.  He doesn't have any CBR outs, but he has quite a few solid PRCA trips in recent months.  Not many guys have ridden him successfully, but Craig Sasse will change that tonight.  This is another one that should end up in the mid-to-high 80s.
My Pick:  Craig Sasse

Clayton Foltyn vs. Slim Prospect
No rider has started the 2011 season any better than the current number one guy Clayton Foltyn.  He has been extremely consistent the last couple months, and he will be trying to continue his momentum in Jackson.  His draw for tonight's long round is Slim Prospect, a bull owned by Rickey West.  He has been extremely tough on right-handed riders, but he hasn't faced Foltyn yet.  This one could go either way, but I'm giving the benefit of the doubt to Clayton.  This is my pick to win the long round tonight, and it should be in the high 80s.
My Pick:  Clayton Foltyn

Jarrod Craig vs. OSO
Jarrod Craig ended the 2010 season right outside the top 10.  He was set to make his 2011 season debut a couple weeks ago, but an injury forced him to miss the event in Monroe.  His long-round draw tonight is OSO, another bull owned by Rickey West.  He had a couple CBR trips in 2010, and he was marked 44.5 points in Nashville last February.  He is going to be a tough one to get by, but it's nothing Jarrod can't handle.  If Foltyn doesn't win the long round, Craig should.  This one should end up close to 90 points.
My Pick:  Jarrod Craig
