Key Match-Ups For 2011 CBR Horizon Series Stephenville

The 2011 CBR Horizon Series will be in Stephenville, TX, tonight for another exciting event.  The action will start at 7:30PM Central Time, and things will take place at the 4C's Arena.  There are plenty of great riders entered, including 10 who are currently in the top 15 in the season standings.  There will also be a bull team competition which should provide a decent number of qualified rides.  I expect several guys to ride both bulls and be in the running for the event win.

There are plenty of great match-ups in the long round, and I've put together a list of the top eight along with a list of the Championship Round bulls.  If you have anything to add, please visit our Facebook page or email me at:  codythrasher@cbrbull.com.  Enjoy!

Riggin Phillips vs. White Tornado
Riggin Phillips finished in the top 10 in the 2010 CBR standings, but he has struggled a little since the new season started.  His long-round draw tonight is White Tornado, a bull owned by K-J Bucking Bulls.  In three outs in 2010, he has been ridden once for 91 points.  Phillips can ride this bull and be a lot of points when he is 100% healthy, but I'm not sure his hand is fully healed yet.  Normally I'd take Riggin in this match-up, but White Tornado should get the job done this time.
My Pick:  White Tornado

Chandler Bownds vs. Air Patrick
Chandler Bownds has started off the 2011 season on fire, and he is currently third in the standings.  His draw for tonight's long round is Air Patrick, a bull owned by Chad Drury.  He will be on Lyndal Hurst's bull team tonight.  Bronson Butcher won the long round in Woodward on him, and the bull will more than likely go to the left right out of the gate.  Air Patrick will be away from Chandler's hand, but he is as honest as they get.  This is my pick to win the long round, and it could be 90 points in the process.
My Pick:  Chandler Bownds

Pistol Robinson vs. Boomerang
Pistol Robinson rode in Springtown last weekend, and he covered both his bulls and finished in a tie for second.  His long-round draw tonight is Boomerang, another bull owned by Lyndal Hurst.  In 12 outs in 2010, he has been ridden seven times for an average ride score of 87.6 points.  Left-handed riders have had more success against this bull, and that will work in Robinson's favor.  I can't see this match-up going any other way than a qualified ride in the mid-to-high 80s.
My Pick:  Pistol Robinson

Cody Atwood vs. Blowout
Cody Atwood picked up a big win in Springtown last Sunday afternoon, and he is currently third in the season standings.  His draw for tonight's long round is Blowout, a bull owned by 4C Bucking Bulls.  In two outs in 2010, he has been ridden twice for an average ride score of 88.25 points.  Nile Lebaron was 90 points on this bull in Fort Stockton a couple months ago.  Atwood rode nearly everything last weekend, and right-handed riders have had a lot of success against Blowout.  All signs lead to a qualified ride in this match-up.
My Pick:  Cody Atwood

Scotty Knapp vs. Carson's Big Rig
Scotty Knapp debuted in Huron a few months ago, and he won the first night of competition.  Since then, however, he really hasn't had much success.  His long-round draw tonight is Carson's Big Rig, a bull owned by Danny Reagan.  In 12 outs in 2010, he has been ridden six times for an average ride score of 89.25 points.  Carson's Big Rig is a great draw every time, and if Knapp rides him, he will contend for the long-round win.  That being said, something tells me the bull will bring the rider down early this time.
My Pick:  Carson's Big Rig

Elliot Jacoby vs. Crazy Train
Elliot Jacoby finished third in the 2010 standings, but he has gotten off to a slow start to the new season.  His draw for tonight's long round is Crazy Train, another bull owned by Danny Reagan.  In 10 trips in 2010, he has been ridden three times for an average ride score of 84.9 points.  Those numbers are a little misleading because a guy will be closer to 90 points if he rides Crazy Train in the future.  Jacoby can ride any type of bull when he is on his game, and he is way overdue to get the new season on the right track.
My Pick:  Elliot Jacoby

Cooper Kanngiesser vs. Uppercut
Cooper Kanngiesser is another rider who has started the 2011 season a little slower than I expected.  He is currently 33rd in the standings.  His long-round draw is Uppercut, a bull owned by Box K Cattle Co.  He will be a part of David Blankenship's bull team in Stephenville.  In three trips in 2010, Uppercut is unridden with an average bull score of 44.1 points.  Kanngiesser can ride this bull when he is on a hot streak, but he hasn't shown many positive signs the past couple months.  I'm picking the bull to stay perfect on this one.
My Pick:  Uppercut

Willis Trosclair vs. Muy Caliente
Willis Trosclair returned to action a couple weeks ago after missing the 2010 season with an injury.  He returned to form last Sunday in Springtown, riding both his bulls and finished sixth.  He is currently in a tie for 15th in the season standings.  His draw for tonight's long round is Muy Caliente, a bull owned by J.C. Knapp.  This bull was a finalist for 2010 CBR Bull of the Year, and he is a phenomenal draw every time.  In seven trips in 2010, he has been ridden four times for an average ride score of 88.69 points.  Muy Caliente will probably be away from Trosclair's hand, but he should still ride him and be close to 90.
My Pick:  Willis Trosclair
