2010 CBR Colt Munden Invitational Preview

The 2011 CBR Horizon Series continues this weekend with stops in Carthage, TX, and Springtown, TX.  The event in Carthage is Saturday afternoon.  The Colt Munden Invitational will take place in Springtown, and it will take place Sunday afternoon.  Several top CBR riders will be riding in both events, and the weekend action will surely have a big impact on the season standings.  Either way, it's going to be another exciting weekend for Championship Bull Riding and its fans.

I've put together a list of ten riders to keep an eye on this weekend.  Some are riding in both events, while others may only be riding in one of the two.  If you have anything to add, please visit our Facebook page and voice your opinion.  You can also email me at:  codythrasher@cbrbull.com.  Enjoy!

Chandler Bownds
Chandler Bownds is number one in the 2011 season standings after two great events last weekend.  The Texas bull rider went to Allen, TX, and won the Tom Thumb Texas Stampede on the strength of two 90-point rides.  He backed that up with a sixth-place finish in Wichita Falls, TX, later that night.  Bownds will be riding in Carthage and Springtown this weekend, and he will be looking to extend his lead in the standings.  He has been on a big roll the past couple months.

Cody White
Cody White finished in the top eight in both events last weekend.  He went 1-for-2 in Allen and finished eighth.  Later that night in Wichita Falls, he won the long round with 87 points.  He bucked off his Championship Round bull, but he still finished second for the event.  White is currently second in the season standings after a very consistent start so far.  He will be riding in Carthage and Springtown this weekend.

Ednei Caminhas
Ednei Caminhas didn't waste any time making an impact in the CBR.  The Brazilian went 2-for-2 at the Texas Stampede last weekend, and he came away with a second-place finish in the process.  He is currently third in the season standings after his solid start.  Caminhas will be looking to pick up where he left off last weekend when he rides in Carthage and Springtown this weekend.

Neil Holmes
Neil Holmes is currently fifth in the 2011 season standings, and he did most of his damage last weekend at the Texas Stampede.  The Houston bull rider rode both his bulls in Allen, and he finished third for the event.  He will be riding in Carthage and Springtown this weekend, and he will be looking to continue his hot streak.  Holmes is definitely back after his nasty wreck in Huron in early September.

Lucas Dick
Lucas Dick has had a very consistent start to his 2011 CBR season.  He is currently sixth in the standings after another solid performance last weekend.  The Kansas bull rider went 1-for-2 in Wichita Falls, and he finished third for the event.  He also finished fourth in Longview, TX, last month.  Lucas will be riding in Carthage and Springtown this weekend, and he could very well be a major factor once again.

Ryan Shanklin
Ryan Shanklin is currently in a tie for eighth in the season standings after picking up a big win in Wichita Falls, TX, last Saturday night.  He was the only rider to ride both his bulls, and the 168 points on two was more than enough to seal the deal.  Shanklin will be riding in Carthage and Springtown this weekend, and he should have a ton of confidence after finding the winner's circle last weekend.

Elliot Jacoby
Elliot Jacoby finished third in the 2010 CBR standings, and he is one of the best in the business when he is on his game.  He will be looking to jump-start his 2011 season this weekend, and he has the potential to be a World Title contender next year.  Jacoby will be riding in Carthage and Springtown this weekend, and it won't surprise me if he contends at both events.

Clayton Williams
Clayton Williams finished 15th in the 2010 CBR standings, and he will also be making his debut at the National Finals Rodeo next month.  The Texas bull rider will be riding in Carthage, TX, this weekend which is also his hometown.  He will be trying to get his 2011 CBR season started on a positive note, and he will also be trying to stay sharp for the NFR.  Williams could be tough to beat this weekend.

Pistol Robinson
It's always good to see Pistol Robinson riding in Championship Bull Riding.  CBR fans haven't seen him since the Fort Worth event in early March, but he is always capable of making things happen when he enters.  He will be riding in Springtown this weekend where he is a past winner of the Colt Munden Invitational.  Robinson is comfortable at this venue, and he will be one of the favorites Sunday afternoon.

Clayton Baethge
Clayton Baethge is the 2008 CBR World Champion, and he finished 10th in the 2009 CBR standings.  He didn't enter many events in 2010, but he will be making another run in 2011.  When he gets on a hot streak, he is almost impossible to beat.  It will be interesting to see if he can get his season started off on the right track.  Baethge will be riding in Springtown this weekend.
