Kenny Westrope Rides to Victory in Window Rock

The dust has settled on the 2010 Navajo Nation CBR Challenge, and Kenny Westrope found the winner's circle in front of a record crowd.  The victory was his second in the last eight days.  The Mississippi bull rider rode Kickeye for 90 points in the long round, and that put him third going into the Championship Round.  He picked Owen Washburn's bull Daddy's Boy, and the two combined for 92.5 big points!  The 182.5 points on two bulls was more than enough to get Westrope the win, and it will move him very close to the top 10 in the CBR season standings.

Cooper Kanngiesser, who has been struggling a little lately, finished second with 177 points.  He was 84 points in the long round, but he electrified the crowd with a 93-point ride on Luca Brazzi in the Championship Round.  The ride was one of five 90-point rides on the night.  Chon Miranda, a New Mexico native, finished third with 176 points.  He was 86.5 points in the long round, and he combined that with 89.5 points in the Championship Round.

Riggin Phillips and Jarrod Craig tied for fourth with 175 points.  They were both just inside the top 10 in the CBR standings going into the Window Rock event, and their finish will keep them moving in the right direction.  Phillips was 86.5 points on Wonder Boy in the long round, and he backed that up with an 88.5-point ride on Crazy Train in the Championship Round.  Craig was 89 points on Beer Thirty in the long round which was good enough for fourth, but he was only 86 points on Total Package in the Championship Round.

One of the big stories of the night was the performance of crowd favorites Tustin Daye and Guytin Tsosie in the long round.  Daye is an Arizona native, and he rocked the house with a 91.5-point ride on Psycho Todd.  Towards the end of the long round, New Mexico bull rider Tsosie went above that with a 92.5-point ride on Fumar.  These two went into the Championship Round with a great shot to win the event, but they were both bucked off their respective bulls.

The bull of the event was Luca Brazzi, and he is owned by Brad Vogele.  He combined with Cooper Kanngiesser on a 93-point ride in the Championship Round.  The next stop for the CBR is Fort Stockton, Texas, this Saturday night.  The event will be a CBR-produced Horizon Series event, and it will also be a bull team competition.  Keep checking CBRBull.com for updates, previews, key match-ups, recaps, etc.
