Jay Morrow Rides to Win In Lubbock

Jay Morrow of Wayland, IA claimed his first CBR Championship at the ABC Rodeo CBR Challenge sponsored by Palace Station Resort and Casino. Jay beat out five World Champions taking home a hefty $10,000 check and prized buckle in front of a large Sunday afternoon crowd at the City Back Coliseum located on the Texas Tech University grounds.

Jay scored an 86 on Twister from Scott Burruss in the long go which placed him in the top fifteen amongst scores all in the high eighties. He drew Carney Man from Lyndal Hurst for the short go and scored an impressive 91 for a total of 177 on two. Cooper Kanngiesser gave him a run after tying the 177 total score after a 89 on in the short round on the bull Hugh from Alan Murphy, but the back judges score narrowly edged Jay into the winning position. Cooper rode out an 88 on Bad Moon from Scott Burruss which had set him in the top 15. His winnings after Lubbock place him in the number two position behind Chad Castillo in the Crown Royal CBR World Standings.

PRCA World Champion Wesley Silcox was the only other rider to cover his short round bull and post a total score of 174. Wesley schooled Brass Apache from Scott Burruss and earned an 86.5 against the 45 other riders competing in the long go. He was seventh out in the short go on Georgia Sun from Scott Burruss, holding on long enough to score an 87.5 and landing him in third place for the night.

The ABC Rodeo CBR Challenge premier broadcast will be April 23, 2008 on RFD-TV. The next live CBR event is the legendary George Paul Memorial in Del Rio Texas May 3 and 4.
