Cooper Kanngiesser Takes 31st Annual George Paul Memorial Title and Lead In 2008 CBR World Standings

It was a great weekend of bull riding at the 31st Annual George Paul Memorial Bull riding in Del Rio TX. The standing room only crowd that was present for both days witnessed bull riding at its best. Of the combined two day event over 15 rides scored in the 90's. The thrilling final round consisted of 15 riders vying for the title but it was Cooper Kanngiesser who took the buckle home. The 23 year old from Zenda, KS had a final score of 264.5 on three. His road to the final round began on Saturday evening on the bull Born to Boogie, a Bad Company bull, which gave him a starting score of86.5 score. He combined that with his Sunday afternoon score of 87 on a ride on Dirty Demon, a Lufkin Ranch bull. In the final round he was 10th out on McCrazy the Mike Johnson bull and rode him to a 91, securing his lead and awarding him the $10,000 check. "I've won a few events but I think this is one of my best victories. It's always been a dream of mine, since I started riding when I was itty bitty. Thank you George Paul family and CBR!" Cooper secured a number one place in the CBR World Standings.

Bobby Paul, brother of the late George Paul was ecstatic about the CBR production stating, "It was the best bull riding event at the George Paul Memorial in 20 years. We are so thrilled with the show, the bulls, the riders, and the crowd." "It's a homecoming of sorts for me. I'm proud to be here and proud of the quality of riders and bulls we brought back to this historic event", said Tuff Hedeman, 4 time World Champion, President of the CBR, and one of only two riders to ever win the George Paul Memorial a record three times .
