Danny McDowell Wins Santa Maria Title And Takes Lead In World Standings

On a beautiful day in Santa Maria, CA a large crowd witnessed a great day of competitive bull riding and Danny McDowell taking it all home. Danny, from Jena, La. won with a combined score of 176 after rides on Mr Slim (86) and Auger(90). Danny, who is dealing with a wired jaw, was fatigued after his rides but smiled and was able to say he felt blessed and was looking forward to CBR World Finals. Danny has enjoyed a successful season as this was the second Championship win for him this year. He was the Longview Champion in September and was also the Crown Royal King of the Month in May. The win today sets Danny in the number one position on the World Standings going into the World Championship.

The top bull honors go to Itch and Scratch, an Alan Murphy Bull, after 2 judges marked the cantankerous animal 24's after it bucked its rider Douglas Duncan in the short round.

This event closes the 2008 CBR season and determined the 40 invitations to the World Championship in Las Vegas January 23 and 24, 2009 at the South Point Hotel and Casino. Cooper Kanngiesser falls short to the second spot in the world standings after finishing in the money with a 90.5 point ride on Brick Town. Chad Castillo finishes the year in 3rd , followed by Elliot Jacoby, and Jay Morrow.
