Cowboy CROSSroads March 2008
I am currently sitting here in the office in Ft. Worth freezing! We are getting ready for the 16th Annual CBR Tuff Hedeman Championship Challenge and they are expecting snow here today. When I left out of the hotel this morning they were stating that we had reached our daily high of 38 degrees and you know we are not quite used to the real cold weather so we will see how things go today.
Let’s get to the news! I have to begin by saying if you missed out on the new CBR TV show on RFD-TV last night you missed a treat. We are so excited about Jeff Medders and Geronimo Productions taking over the CBR show you will get to see new and exciting things including cowboy bios and a class act produced show. You can catch the action on Wednesday nights 9:00 PM/CST. I can truly say that the CBR in headed in the right direction with this new combination. If you missed us this week be sure to catch us weekly on RFD from now on.
The CBR event in El Paso, Texas was once again played out in front of a packed house and when the final bull was bucked, Howdy Cloud of Kountze, Texas was the first 2008 CBR champ taking home the $10,000 check and Hy-O Silver Champion Buckle. While in El Paso the Sunland Park & Casino was the site of the host pre-party where several bull riders including Tuff Hedeman and Wesley Silcox were on hand to greet sponsors and fans. I would like to say a great big “thanks” goes out to Adeline & Gina for all their hard work they put in to making the CBR El Paso a huge success.
On the injury front I have a lot to talk about this month. Clint Craig of Mena, Arkansas has been out since the CBR Finals due to a fractured collar bone. Clint was planning on returning back to competition in Ft. Worth but looks like it may a few more weeks. We will possibly see him back at the Lubbock, Texas CBR event on April 6th. J.W. Harris was knocked out and received facial fractures which required facial surgery in San Antiono after the Xtreme event. J.W. had surgery on Sunday was discharged home on Monday and has been trucking along since then. I talked with J.W this week and he plans on returning to competition at the Houston Rodeo and plans on being with us in Lubbock also. Danell Tipton received a groin injury and has had to sit out a couple of weeks but will be back with us here in Ft. Worth this weekend. Layne McCasland is healing up nicely after this elbow surgery and has actually been on the judging side in Lufkin and here this weekend in Ft. Worth. B.J. Schumacher had to doctor release out of Lufkin CBR due to having 102 fever, strep throat and bronchitis. B.J. has been home this week but will also be here in Ft. Worth this weekend. I heard from one of the CBR contestants that Jody Newberry had an emergency situation in Oklahoma while riding where he ruptured the main artery in his leg and had to be taken to surgery. I got word that he was recovering fine and would be able to ride again. News is that Jody and Amanda also had a new baby boy but no word on all the details but that they were all home doing fine. Ardie Maier of Timberlake, South Dakota got tired of sitting home reading books with his neck brace so he drifted down with some friends to the Lufkin event and was planning on staying over for the Ft. Worth CBR event. Ardie is doing well and will return back to the doctor in about 3-4 weeks to find out if he has to have surgery on his neck or not. Ardie’s traveling partner, Jesse Bail has also been healing up at home but will return back to the arena at Rodeo Houston after his injuries in Rapid City, South Dakota. Matt Austin has returned back to the arena at the CBR event in Lufkin. Matt said his elbow was still bothering him a little but he would be ready to defend his title at the Ft. Worth CBR. Last but not least the most exciting news I have to report this month is that Terry Williams is a new granddaddy! Terry’s daughter, Caroline and Joshua Carter welcomed into the world a very large 10 pound 3 ounce handsome, healthy baby boy. Carson Andrew Carter was born Thursday, February 28th while his uncle Clayton was also on hand to welcome him here. I do also have to congratulate Clayton on his big win this past month in Oklahoma. Everyone at the CBR wishes each of these guys good luck and a quick return back to the arena.
Just a few here abouts to let you guys in on. Chance Smart was the big winner at the San Antonio PRCA rodeo winning the first Xtreme and taking the title for the rodeo. Wesley Silcox took top honors at the San Antiono Xtreme #2 event scoring an arena record of 94 points and taking second behind Chance for the rodeo. Logan Knibbe has been on fire moving into second position in the PRCA World Standings after cinching the win at the San Angelo, Texas tour rodeo. I would like to say congrats to Lane Hedeman and the Lipan Indians for making it to the Regional Basketball finals. Lipan got beat in the first round but only by 10 points. Speaking of Hedeman I have to apologize to Tuff for forgetting his birthday. We all were caught up in our Lufkin CBR show that we forgot about his birthday so~Happy Belated Birthday Tuff!!! I also would like to tell Cole Echols how I love his new hair cut his fishing buddies Jarrod Craig and Trent Cormier gave him. If any of you need a hair cut these two guys do a fine hair cut and for free I heard!
Well I guess I should get back to work but I hope everyone can join us in Ft. Worth for the CBR/NBBA Tuff Hedeman event March 8th at Will Rogers Coliseum. If you can’t make it out we will be on the road to Lubbock, Texas for our next CBR event April 6th. For more information on our events check our web site at www.cbrbull.com. I hope everyone has a great week and don’t forget to spring forward your time clocks this Saturday. God Bless and be safe
